1 of Many...

I am loving my miters! I have one complete square.

medium_Knitting_131.jpg

I have seen different examples of the miter blanket. Everyone plays with the colors. I am too. But I decided to change things up a bit by playing with the pattern within the miter. I am happy with the way it turned out. This is how the rest will be. Just change the colors. Notice the first is in orange and blue- Illinois colors!

Next up, the yarn porn I told you I had.
medium_Knitting_136.jpg Starting on the right, going clockwise-
Cherry Tree Hill in Monet from The Loopy Ewe
Spunky Eclectic in Dandy Lion from the yarn of the month club
Louet Gems in Neptune from The Loopy Ewe
Louet Gems in Sage from The Loopy Ewe
Sockotta in color 605- very denim friendly
The Loopy Ewe Knit Notes for Socks notebook from The Loopy Ewe
Thelonius by Cookie A. from The Loopy Ewe
Yes, I had another order from The Loopy Ewe come in. I may or may not have placed another this week when she did her update. Hubby really needs to give me a little attention, cuz when he is gone, that is what I do. It could be worse!

I finished my Mom's Jaywalkers last night. I took them up to her work this morning. She wore them all day! I will take a picture Sunday when I am at her house. I think they turned out great. I will be making a pair for me soon. Maybe the CTH Monet?

We leave for vacation next Tuesday! Holy Shit! I have a lot to do. I have to pack 4 people for 7 days! Yuck. More info on our vacation later. But, did I mention I was going to see the Yarn Harlot?

1/20th

Spring feels like it is here! So, my posts have spread out. I spend as much time as possible outside with The Boys. Yesterday we were outside from 12:30 to 7:00! They were hard to wake up this morning! Anyway, I definately now only have time for portable knitting!

But first, let me show you what is done. The "Think Spring" socks have been done and worn many times.

medium_Knitting_128.jpg

I love how the color pooled. I am a fan of pooling or flashing, whatever you want to call it. I know some people hate it. To each their own!

Now, what is on the needles. These are a pair of toe-up in my own hand-dyed-
medium_Knitting_129.jpg

I am doing them at the same time, so they are both at the same point. I should finish those.

Next, Mom's Jaywalkers-
medium_Knitting_125.jpg

These are made with Panda Cotton in Faded Jeans that I got from The Loopy Ewe. I wanted to make something with little or no woolcontent. Mom is wool sensitive. So far , I like this yarn. We will see how it wears. One is complete and I am past the gusset decreases on the second one. I want these done by this weekend.

Saturday, we went to the Quad Cities. We are looking at campers. So we made a detour to Crazy Girl Yarn Shop in Muscatine. I don't get there often, it is over an hour from home. But this yarn and these colors caught my eye-
medium_Knitting_124.jpg

I am like a bird pecking at shiny stuff! They had a whole wall of the Tahki Cotton Classics! I could feel the wheels in my head spinning. I had to have some. I had to figure out how to make the Mitered Square Blanket from Mason-Dixon Knitting! I pulled out a rainbow of colors. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Here I am so far-
medium_Knitting_130.jpg

This is what I came up with Sunday and Monday. I think I have a picture in my head where I am going with the colors and designs for the blocks. We will see how it evolves. And this is very portable friendly. I was inspired by Cara. She cracks me up! Anyway, this is gonna be my "summer on the go" project.

I have more I want to tell you. But I need to get a few things other than knitting done! Damn kids! Anyway, we have a vacation trip coming to tell you about. And I have some yarn porn that the mail lady brought yesterday to show. More on all of that later, hopefully Wednesday or Thursday. See you then!

Monkey Love and Think Spring

OK. I have tried to write this post several times over the past few days. The Boys are healthy (for now)! I hate even saying that out loud! Baby Boy had a double ear infection last week. I was down Saturday and part of Sunday with the stomach flu! Awful! And why is it when Mom is sick, all hell breaks loose? I finally came downstairs Sunday to, what looked like, a tornado had gone through the house! I am finally getting things back in their place.

Anyway, my Monkey Love socks have been done for a few weeks. See-

medium_Knitting_118.jpg

I love them! They fit great, the yarn is FAB, the pattern is awesome! I will definately be knitting more of Cookie's patterns! They are well written and have great attention to detail.
Next, I had gotten this yarn in the mail a few weeks ago-
medium_Knitting_105.jpg

So far here it is-
medium_Knitting_120.jpg

I like this yarn. I have found out that I like thicker socks! Hence the DK weight yarn! Who knew! I do like regular sock weight yarn. But I like the option of putting on a thicker sock in my hand knits. These are the Optimistically Spring colorway from Fancy Image Yarns. A simple toe-up in a 3x1 ribbing. The second one is past the heel and on the home stretch. I have felt the need lately to try different ways to knit socks. Which way is next?

Hubby and my Mom have both been asking for socks. So they are next in line. I think that it is just gonna be socks for me for awhile. I can take them outside with me when I am out with The Boys. Big Boy will be starting tee ball! So socks are good for that. So be prepared for socks in progress for this spring and summer! Hubby made a request for his socks to be orange and black. He wants the brightest orange I can find! I think that I am going to dye it myself! So watch for that adventure sometime in the near future!

The House That Strep Built

Where have I been? It has been a wild couple of weeks. I somehow got sucked into doing a big project for the PTO. That has been fun, but is has taken my time. Then we had that big storm go through IL. We never lost power, it just flickered. But a lot of my family was not as lucky! We had to convince my Grndmother that she needed to warm up. So my Aunt Marilyn, Grandmother, and Peter, my cousin, came in to warm up and shower Sunday. Aunt Marilyn and Peter were here visiting from MN. So I got to spend a nice day with them. Aunt Marilyn is an excellent knitter! She recently went to Peru, and has promised me some of the alpaca she brought back! YEAH! Anyway, they should have stayed here, but Grandmother refused! Anyway, much of my family was still without power Monday. My Mom and Dad came over to be warm and have dinner that night. Then they got a call that the power was back on about 7pm that night. It was 36 degrees in their house at one point! So all is warm and better with that now. Warm is good!

Also Monday, Big Boy had a dentist appointment. His first cavity already! No biggie though! He loves his dentist, thank god! No drilling or shots, just a little laughing gas and chemically fixed the cavity. Wow they have come a long way! Anyway, after that we were noticing Big Boys cough. I look in his throat and there it is....STREP! AGAIN!!! From that night on, it has all been a blur! But to sum up, two sick children, lots of medicine, lots of snot, some barfing, NO SLEEP, washing blankets and sheets repeatedly, and now Mommy is tired! I think things are taking a turn for the better today. I am actually sitting in my chair right now. So this Mommy of sick children has slowed down the knitting! But I have a few shots for you-

These are my finished Aran Braid socks in the yarn I got for Christmas from my Brother and SIL. I love the color! It is "My Favorite Things" colorway. It is so me! Thanks SIL, I know you were responsible for this purchase!

medium_Knitting_102.jpg

This is the first Monkey sock! I love this pattern! I will be trying more socks like this. The yarn is my Valentine's Day gift from Hubby. Socks that Rock mediumweight in Lover's Leap. So, these will be known as my MonkeyLove Socks! Hee! Hee! The second one is at the heel flap. First Monkey Love sock started on 2/24 and finished on 2/27. Not Bad! The progress on the second one has been slowed by the House of Strep, but I am happy with my progress.
I have more I could say, but I am think I may be pushing my luck not checking the Boys for the last 20 minutes! I have some yarn porn to show off. The Etsy shop is loaded back up with swifts, so those are there for anyone interested! Be back soon!
